A  visit to   L Y M E  P A R K .     6th MAY 2015

Twenty two intrepid walkers set off on a very inclement day to visit Lyme Park in Cheshire.

Members met at Halifax Station and other stations along the Calder Valley line for the

journey to Manchester Victoria which is being restored to its former glory.

A walk across Manchester in the rain took the party to Manchester Piccadilly where there

was time for a coffee before boarding the 11.49 train to Disley.

Information was given to the walkers regarding stations beyond Stockport before we

arrived in Disley.

The group then walked along the Gritstone Trail to Bollinghurst Bridge and we entered

the grounds of Lyme Park at this point. Features of interest and some of the history of

Lyme Hall were explained to the group.

We entered the courtyard of the house and had tea and cakes in the former servants

quarters. The return walk was over the hill past Lyme Cage which is a former shooting

lodge. Owing to the inclement weather the view from Lyme Cage was denied to us,

however we did have a glimpse of Alderley Edge to the south.

Remarkably the weather improved on our return to Manchester for our walk across the

city to Manchester Victoria station.

The walk leader was Peter Davies of Brighouse.
